Anne Schout is a native North Carolinian with deep roots in eastern North Carolina. She is a Charlotte native, graduate of UNC-CH with a degree in Chemistry, former analytical chemist, and owner of The Sewing Bird for 20 years.
In her former hometown, she served on a 3300 household homeowners association holding offices of President, Vice President and Secretary. Anne was also a member of many volunteer organizations such as the Hezekiah Alexander Auxiliary, the Hezekiah Alexander Foundation, the Charlotte Symphony Guild, and the Mint Museum Auxiliary where she served in leadership roles.
She is a graduate of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Academy, and is the founding President of the Citizens Association for Police Support.
Since moving to New Bern in 2011, Anne has been a member of the board of the New Bern Preservation Foundation where she served as treasurer and chairman of several large events. She also has served on the board of the Historic Downtown Residents Association, where she was Vice President and President.
Currently, she is the Treasurer of the Neuse River Bridge Run, and is on the Craven Community College Foundation Board where she serves as Resource Development Committee Chairman, chairman of the Community Fabric Awards, and Vice-Chair and Chair-elect of the Board.
